I love my Wednesday nights – my husband’s out playing football and I get two hours to myself with the kids in bed to do with as I want. That normally involves curling up with a book or in front of the TV…and this week Wednesdays get even better with the return of Mad Men.
The programme has been in the news a bit recently after the Government equalities minister said size 14 actress Christina Hendricks (who plays Joan in the show) set “a great body image example with her hourglass figure”.
(Personally I think that is just as irresponsible a comment as saying we should all be stick thin – her hourglass figure is just as unattainable for most women as is Size 0. Why do we need an ideal at all?)
Anyway, back to the show itself and I’m still amazed by how few of my friends have heard of it, let alone watched it. So briefly…this is the start of series 4, it’s 1964, Don Draper et al have left Sterling Cooper to form their own advertising agency, Don’s marriage has fallen apart…
I’m getting excited just thinking about it!
Mad Men is on BBC4 at 10pm on Wednesdays.
