What was the inspiration for Maybebags?
It all started with the material. Tyvek has an amazing tactile quality and it’s super light. Initially I just made a few bags for my friends and they all loved it. So I started thinking about a brand. My intention with Maybebags was to create something that is simple, considered and has a premium appeal, without the premium pricetag.
Where did you work beforehand?
I studied product design and worked in consultancies in Amsterdam and New York. Since moving to London six years ago I have specialised in design research and now work mainly in trend forecasting. It’s great to have a balance between consulting projects and creating something for myself like Maybebags.
How do you relax/switch off?
There’s nothing like ski touring and the wonderful mix of exhaustion and accomplishment afterwards. On a more regular basis I like taking walks in Victoria park with my family and visiting the local markets.
Phew… I like everything by Michel Houellebecq. Most recently I really enjoyed The End of Everything by Megan Abbott.
Wild at Heart by David Lynch. I love the drama.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
What are you listening to at the moment?
I’m addicted to Nicolas Jaar at the moment.
What do you keep in your Maybebag?
Anything from my gym kit to groceries or my sons car collection…
