Anna is the voice behind fashion blog South Molton St Style. Find out about how she switches off in our latest interview...
Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Anna and I run a blog called South Molton St Style, I live in Battersea with my two favourite guys: my boyfriend and my dog, Lopez. I work in marketing for an online retailer by day, and fit in the blog at weekends, evenings and whilst travelling to and from work!
What inspired you to start your blog?
I worked in a totally different industry, and was very far away from the fashion world. As a result I had no idea how to dress and constantly felt like I was wearing the wrong things. When I had an operation in 2011 and had a few weeks bed rest, I finally had the time to do something about it. The blog was anonymous for the first year, I didn't really have the confidence to put a face to it.
How do you relax/switch off?
I don't do it enough but I try and go for walks with the dog and my boyfriend, or call a friend for a natter. None of my best friends work in fashion so it's nice to have a chat with someone about something other than clothes. My two closest girls work in recruitment and financial services, so we're very good at trivialising each others day-job problems over a bottle of red.
It's a weird book to have as a favourite, but I collect editions of George Orwell's 1984. It started when I studied it at school and kept losing them, and then my parents found me a second edition and gave it to me for Christmas. I very nearly have all of them now - I'm missing a 3rd, 7th and 14th edition if anyone has one!
Three Men And A Little Lady. My sister and I used to watch it on repeat when we were little so it has a lot of really good memories for me.
Considering I have a blog and I work online, I don't spend a huge amount of time on the web myself. I'd rather sit down with a magazine. I read Elle, Bazaar and Red every single month from front to back.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I have a few. Lots actually. Reality TV is up there in the rankings, as are white Lindor chocolates and the occasional vanilla macaron from Paul on the Kings Road.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
"You're the only person you have to live with your whole life, so make sure you're fun to be around" - something my Dad said to me once, I was about 17 and just broken up with my first boyfriend and was sulking in the car. Obviously I thought the world was going to end... It didn't.
What are you listening to at the moment?
A lot of Haim, but I was very late on the bandwagon. I was doing a shoot with their stylist a couple of months ago and she was playing their music all the time to try and get used to their style before she dressed them for a tour. I haven't stopped playing their album since.
What one hush piece is on your Christmas wishlist?
My pick is the Camo Trouser. I'm actually away over Christmas and have a few long haul flights to take, these trousers are firmly on the list. Perfect easy travel wear.
