Who are you and what do you do?
I am an Australian photographer living in London and travelling as much as I possibly can!
What led you to photography?
I definitely fell into photography rather than made the conscious decision to become a photographer…. in my former life I was a lawyer. I was never interested in taking photographs growing up, although I have always loved looking at beautiful images and portraits so I guess my love of photography was always there…. it just wasn't apparent that I wanted to be looking through the viewfinder, pushing the shutter button. It wasn't until my relocation from Sydney to London in mid 2007, that I picked up a little point and shoot camera, started messing around with it and discovered just how much I loved taking photographs.
How do you relax/switch off?
I absolutely love to travel and take photographs of the people and places that I visit. It isn’t always relaxing (I have a dreadful sense of direction and am terrible at languages!) but it is how I switch off, rejuvenate and find inspiration. I feel very blessed to have the opportunities that I do.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. A very dear friend gave me this book for my birthday a couple of years ago and I loved it. It is wonderfully written…..haunting and beautiful. India has long been on my wish list of places to visit and this book cemented my desire to travel there one day.
I have a few but one I adore is Little Miss Sunshine. It is wonderfully uplifting, hopeful, quirky and sad all at once. I also absolutely loved Moonrise Kingdom – the cinematography was incredible.
For fashion news I check Fashionista.com daily (http://fashionista.com), Net a Porter.com is wonderful for browsing beautiful new-season clothes and shoes, and i-escape is my go-to travel website. They have a fabulous portfolio of boutique hotels, in all price ranges, from all around the world. (http://www.i-escape.com)
What’s your guilty pleasure?
There is nothing more wonderful than curling up with a perfectly made latte and pile of magazines (fashion, travel, interiors – I read them all!) or good cookbook. I confess that I derive so much more pleasure and enjoyment from reading cookbooks than actually making anything from them!
What are you listening to at the moment?
On my playlist right now is Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks with Don Henley, Just Give Me A Reason by Pink, and Holy Grail by Jay Z and Justin Timberlake.
