If anyone reading this is thinking of buying me a Christmas present this year, then here is something that I would really love – a Jeanine Payer necklace.
Payer is a Californian who designs these beautiful and very personal pieces of jewellery in her San Francisco studio, all engraved with little poems, philosophical sayings or literary quotes from her favourite authors.
In a previous life working for adidas in Hong Kong, I used to spend half my life getting on and off a plane – not, I confess, an experience I miss, but it did have its compensations.
One was the chance to go shopping in some of the world's great cities, and it was in Barney's on a work trip to LA some years ago that I first came across a Jeanine Payer necklace (a chain with a heart engraved O Sweetest Song) and fell in love with it.
Luckily, you don't have to go to California any more to find her work – you can go to her website to see her latest collection and she also sells in four shops in the UK. You can find the nearest one to you also on her website.
(By the way, this is all a not very subtle hint to my husband!)
