How did Beach Tomato come about?
The idea for Beach Tomato came, funnily enough, on a beach. We were on a beautiful, idyllic beach in Bahia, Brazil where we realised that there was nowhere you could go to discover the world’s best beaches. Soon after, fashion and beauty were added to the mix and now we are a beach culture site. If it is beach related, it is on Beach Tomato.
How do you relax/switch off?
A beachy destination is obviously the best way to switch off. Something about the elements and connecting with nature that melt your stresses and strains away. When I am urban residing, I love walking and yoga. Not to mention the odd glass of wine post work to wash the day away.
I love a good biography. Something about learning at the same time as being sucked into an amazing story. I have read fascinating books from people from Jackie Kennedy to Alec Guinness as well as biography’s with people telling a fascinating tale. Marching Powder set in a Bolivian prison is one of my all time favourites.
I love Life Is Beautiful. Such an innovative way to tell a rather sad tale.
Two of my friends have great blogs. Showmeyourwardrobe.com by Jackie Dixon sees the inside of some stylish wardrobes and Nataliehartleywears. Natalie is a wonderful stylist and her blog shows her styling herself in her weekly wares. Love the sartorial element of both of these.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Ha. I have more than I would like to admit. From Dodgy brain numbing TV to annihilating a large bag of kettle chips in one sitting.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
One we have all heard, but “sticks and stones may break your bones, but names will never hurt you.” People always have negative things to say, but it is best not to bother yourself with what other people are saying or thinking. Gossip can be a very evil thing, it’s best not to take it personally.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I am listening to The National a lot at the moment.
Ultimate beach destination?
EVERYWHERE! So many amazing places that I want to see. This year, however, I am going to Diani Beach in Kenya and Jamaica. My favourite beach thus far would have to be baia dos Golfinhos in Pipa, brazil. Dolphins are swimming beside you, you can’t see anything man made (apart from a lovely old beach bar) Heaven.
