Let's Talk About - In The Unlikely Event

It's finally time to talk about In The Unlikely Event by Judy Blume! Did you love it? Did you hate it? We want to know!

*WARNING: THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD! If you haven't read the book yet and don't want to know what happens, don't read any further!*

At the start of this month we launched our online book club! You can read more about it here, but essentially it’s our excuse to take some time out for yourself to sit down with a great book and then chat about it with a community of like-minded people! It works just like a normal book club - except the discussions are happening online – so you can join in on your commute or cosied up at home on the sofa with a glass of wine in hand.

This month we've been reading Judy Blume’s novel In The Unlikely Event - her first book for adults in 16 years, set in the 1950s and based on a set of real life plane crashes that took place in the New Jersey town where she grew up.

There are loads of different characters in this book and you see the events from all sorts of different perspectives – so we’re starting off the discussion with a few questions about this. We've put together a character map which you will find at the bottom of this post, but we want to hear what you thought! Were there too many characters for your liking? Too few? Which were your favourites?

We’re dying to hear from you, and really hope you enjoyed reading it as much as we did!

Watch the video below to hear our other discussion points - then let us know what you think on Facebook. Our favourite comment will win a £50 hush voucher!

Character Map

We’ve created a character map to help those who (like us) struggled with the myriad characters in In The Unlikely Event visualise the relationships of those living in the town of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

We’ve stuck to the main characters and three principal families: the Ammermans, the Osners and the Steins who together create the complex character web that unfolds through the novel…
