Meet our resident stylist for autumn/winter 2014

This season we've brought on board Sam Jones as hush's resident stylist. Sam has worked in fashion for over 15 years and runs a personal shopping service called The Style Alchemy. She knows her stuff, so we thought we'd do a little interview to properly introduce her and get some quick tips on autumn/winter style...

Describe your personal style…

Casual chic. If I wear a slouchy shirt, I’ll team it with a pair of heels. If I’m dressed smartly, I’ll make sure my hair is slightly unkempt. I don’t like ‘too polished’, but I do like to make an effort.

What are you looking forward to wearing this autumn?

A cosy knit cardy is a must, but I’ll be cinching mine at the waist with a narrow leather belt this season. I’m also loving the resurgence of the knee high boot. There’s definitely a nod towards the 60’s/70’s this autumn.

Are there any hush pieces you have your eye on?

That’s an easy one. The Nessa cardi, the star jumper, the parka and the fur jacket for starters.

What’s your top tip for updating your look for the new season?

A new coat will update your autumn wardrobe instantly. Invest in one early on. Don’t be led by the weather, the best ones always sell out by September. Take a look at how the catwalks are styling things. Whether it’s a different way to tie a scarf or wear a belt, subtle changes in styling can update your look without costing a fortune. And lastly, a trip to the hairdressers gets me in the mood to update my look.

Do you have a style mantra?

I have many. Be true to your uniform and know what works for you year round are great ones to live by, but my favourite; Be inspired.

What’s your weekday/weekend uniform?

The week is my opportunity to dress up a little. I’m a trouser girl at heart, so a great pair of cropped trousers with a blouse and sweater and of course a pair of heels tends to be my go-to look. The weekend is all about the kids, so I keep it casual. Dungaree’s are my thing at the moment.

Any treasured style items?

Classics that never tire, such as my white tux, my J brand grey skinnys and my Gianvito Rossi stiletto points.

What one item can’t you get enough of?

The jersey tee. The moment it starts to look too worn and tired, I get another one. It’s the only way to do jersey properly.
