Unwind With...Karima Francis

What made you want to become a singer?
Hearing a melody in my head when I used to play the drums in bands. It took me a while to get the confidence as it's a very girly thing to be a singer!!

Where do you find your inspiration?
In life's surroundings; the good, the bad, the rich, the poor, the guilty, the jealous... Love and love’s destruction.

How do you relax/switch off?
I don't, music pumps (annoyingly) to my head and heart almost every moment of the day, I don't switch off. The most relaxing thing I probably do is go to the gym... Still not that relaxing though.

Favourite book?
My favourite book? Maybe Henry Miller’s tropic of cancer or Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho.

Favourite film?
This is so hard!!! Probably Lost Highway by David lynch or Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining - I watch that when I feel alone.

Favourite blog/website?
I could get told off for telling you my favourite but I'm really liking twitter at the moment, since I found out about the hash tagging system!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
The 90's.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
If you want a career in the industry get out of Blackpool!

What are you listening to at the moment?
David Lynch Crazy Clown time, John Martyn Piece by Piece , Ryan Adams , Johnny cash America V.

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing? I would change my identity and move away to somewhere like Cuba find someone to create some kind of art with. Whether it be film or performance and dive deep into the realms of surrealism... Fall in love and live happily ever after.

Karima's last album, The Author, is constantly playing on our ipods (to download it click here). Her new album is out later on in the year and her 2012 tour starts in April, tickets are on sale now!
