Who are you and what do you do?
I am Creative Director and Founder of The Linen Works, which is a luxury homeware brand selling beautiful linen products. People come to us for our really soft washed linen, particularly our bedlinen. We do a range of soft, muted colours (as well as white). As we don’t have a shop, our photographs are really important and we try to tell a story through them.
How do you relax/switch off?
With three young boys and a busy working life, “relax” and “switch off” are alien words to me at the moment. The time I really take a step back is when we go to our house in France, which is an old farmhouse near Toulon and where I had the idea for The Linen Works. I love the simplicity of life there – and the heat.
It would have to be Tess of the Durbevilles. I first read it as a teenager and found it to be a very powerful book. I was brought up in Dorset, so felt an affinity with her and all the places she lived and went to.
I loved Before Sunset with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, set in Paris - romantic and wistful.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I like a hot chocolate when the temperature drops below 15 degrees. Basically I fare best in the heat. Hot chocolate helps me get through the winter months.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Make time to stop and smell the roses.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Still mad about Daft Punk, Get Lucky – it makes me reach for the volume button in the car on a sunny day.
