Don't miss

Unwind with...Maxine Groucutt

How did you end up doing visuals at Liberty’s?

I studied fashion and then costume design at college and then moved into the retail sector as a manager. I missed being creative and quickly moved into merchandising and display. I love windows they are the most creative area in the store and you can elevate and inspire customers.

What was the inspiration behind Liberty’s window display this Christmas?

The song the 12 days of Christmas is the theme this year; we have maids milking for our Chocolate shop, bejewelled swans swimming and a whirling children’s carousel of geese. And of course what could be better than a gift from Liberty that ‘my true love gave to me’!

How do you relax/switch off?

In the winter a walk with my husband in Epping Forest, pick up the Sunday papers and then back home for a roast. Sunday is my favourite day of the week as it’s the only time I get to unwind.

Favourite book?

The Road to Los Angeles by John Fante. It’s the book which is supposed to have inspired The Catcher in The Rye. The main character is an adolescent boy who lives in his own imagination trying to remain a child whilst adults pressure him to become a man.

Favourite film?

The Big Sleep-I love the friction of the relationship between Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, but any old movie, musical or costume drama can reduce me to laughter or tears. The past just seems more romantic.

Favourite blog/website?

Cherry Menlove blog. I don’t really have to time to cook, sew or garden but she is so charming and I love her updates.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Cheap ginger biscuits, a pot of earl grey tea and a Doris Day film.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“You’re either in love with one person for the rest of your life or you’re not”. It made me more resilient to having my heart broken knowing there was someone new out there with who I would experience the wonders of love again.

What are you listening to at the moment?

White Rabbits, It’s frightening.

What’s top of your Christmas wish list this year?

I become a mummy in February next year so I have plumped for the deliciously impractical Mui Mui glitter boots to push the buggy in!
