Wish we were... indulging in a guilty pleasure.

There’s no escaping the flashing lights, heaving crowds and gluttonous excess at this time of year. One tradition we won’t be avoiding however involves curling up by the fire with a great (and yes, perhaps slightly twee) festive film. Here are our favourites and the reasons we come back to them over and over again.

The Holiday
An all round feel-good film set in beautiful locations, guaranteed to have you yearning for a chilly walk in the countryside wrapped up in cosy layers.

Un Conte de Noel
Catherine Deneuve and Mathieu Amalric star in this multi-layered foreign film with more bite than your average Christmas scheduling.

The Snowman
An animated classic that has become part of British culture. This one definitely encourages a sense of calm so switch it on when you need an escape from the Christmas commotion.

Love Actually
A classic film from the King of British rom-coms. With a stellar cast who deliver everything from comedy to raw emotional moments, what’s not to love? A great way to kick off the festive season.

White Christmas
You can’t get through the holiday without watching a musical, and this one with crooner Bing Crosby is just the ticket.
