How we’re working with other retailers and manufacturers to shape a more sustainable leather industry
Products that last a long time (and get a lot of use) are inherently more sustainable – which is why our leather is designed to be durable, beautiful and timeless.
But that’s only one aspect of our sustainability journey. As a part of our commitment to become a more sustainable retailer, in August 2020 we joined the Leather Working Group (LWG), which was set up to support more responsible leather manufacturing all over the world.
LWG is an international organisation made up of over 900 members across every stage of the supply chain – from the tanneries who manufacture the leather through to the retailers (like us) who sell the finished products.
Since 2005, it has led the way in identifying environmental best practices in the leather industry by providing guidelines and carrying out audits, with the aim of continually improving the industry from the inside.
More than 20% of the world’s annual finished leather production is now manufactured in LWG-certified facilities – and it is internationally recognised as the industry leader in environmental stewardship. Every member has committed to working to promote environmental best practice within leather manufacturing and related industries.
And as a part of our membership, we’re committing to increase the amount of our leather that’s manufactured in LWG-certified facilities. So, in the next few years you’ll start to see more and more references to this on our products. At the same time, we’ll continue to work closely with other members of the LWG to help shape a more sustainable leather industry.
