When it comes to denim, it’s safe to say our wardrobes will never be without it. But, if a mainstay can still have a moment, that’s what’s happening right now thanks to this year’s array of slouchy fits and Y2K-inspired silhouettes. And because the effortless vibes of a good pair of jeans are exactly what we’re looking for in our everyday outfits, we’ll be embracing the more relaxed styles with open arms.

What styles of jeans are in for 2023?

The kind of jeans that are in fashion for 2023 are far from figure hugging – think wide-leg and flared jeans that puddle around a pair of chunky trainers.

Wide-leg jeans

Are skinny jeans ‘out’ then? We try not to veto anything when it comes to style, but we can tell you that big shapes are big news. While we have been spotting baggy-all-over jeans everywhere, if you’d like something that’s a little slimmer on the leg, then flared jeans that kick out below the knee are for you. Cargo jean

Cargo trousers are the kind of Y2K trend we can really get onboard with – the utility look and comfortable fit make for the perfect everyday style, and we especially love how they’ve evolved into cargo jeans for 2023. Dubbed ‘puddle pants’ by the likes of Vogue and Who What Wear, trousers that cascade to the ground and ‘puddle’ around your feet are a stylish way to do effortless dressing right now. And, this extends to our denim collection too, thanks to ‘puddle jeans’. Denim skirt

No, they’re not jeans, but denim skirts are getting just as much attention at the moment. Denim maxi skirts, to be exact. We’ll be wearing ours with sandals in the heat and a pair of tall boots as the weather changes.

How to wear the latest denim trends

True blue

This year, we’re seeing a move away from vintage-inspired washes and fading on the legs. Denim right now is all about more even shades of true blue – that classic mid-wash between light and dark denim that goes with everything in your wardrobe. The great thing about these all-over shades is that they require less washing, meaning less water is used to make them.

Double denim

It’s not just about the jeans – one of the easiest ways to wear denim right now is doubled up, co-ord style. That might be pairing your wide-leg jeans with an equally oversized denim shirt (half-tucked in for a relaxed finish) or teaming your maxi skirt with a denim jacket for a twist on the ‘Canadian tuxedo’. Whatever your denim on denim outfit, just make sure both pieces are the same shade of blue.

Plain and simple

Invested in the perfect pair of jeans? You might want to keep the rest of the styling neutral to give that blue its moment. Why not contrast the volume of a slouchier style with a simple black vest top, or wear a white T-shirt for an equally effortless look. Maybe it’s the boho energy, but 70s styles are always coming back around during the summer months. And with flared jeans firmly cemented as one of 2023’s biggest fashion trends, it makes perfect sense to complete the look with some of the Daisy Jones-esque pieces that are everywhere right now. Wear those kicked-out hems with crochet tops and tan accessories, or with a waistcoat worn as a top and some cage sandals.
