Style Notes: Tanya Philipson

This month’s instalment of Style Notes sees Tanya Philipson, Executive Fashion Director at Marie Claire, giving her take on some age-old style dilemmas as well as telling us how she’ll be embracing the current trend for all things 70’s…

Do you think the 70's trend will stick around long, and how will you be wearing it for Spring/Summer?

The 70's are back with a vengeance for SS18 and I personally love this fun, feel-free trend and think it’ll definitely stick around as we go into AW18. For summer, I’ll be investing in some key pieces like the Tabitha Maxi Dress, as well as some of the fun retro styles like Stripe Star Tee, OK Tank Top and the Santorini basket bag.

How do you dress for comfort but still look stylish?

For the past few seasons, fashionable girls have traded in their stilettos for a pair of stylish sneakers. With this in mind I would style-up the Henley Canvas Trainers with pieces from hush’s brilliant selection of athleisure wear like the slogan C’est Si Bon Sweat Top.

You could also pair the relaxed feel of the Washed Tyler Jumpsuit or pyjama style Aime Joggers with a statement jacket and sleek accessories to combine the best of both worlds.

Plus don’t forget, a Boyfriend Hoodie doesn’t just have to be for the gym! Tuck your hair into a stylish zip-up hoodie and wear with a leather jacket on top.

What are your three top picks from the new April collection?

I’ll be going for a couple of classic wardrobe staples like the Embroidered Relaxed Jeans and Camo Military Jacket as well as a stand out piece that I can see myself getting loads of wear out of this season - the Paloma jumpsuit.

What's the best way to break out of the 'jeans and tee' style rut?

This is always a favourite look of mine but there are a few ways you can try and mix it up.

Jumpsuits are a great alternative and have become a strong jean contender in my wardrobe – try different textures like the silky Paloma jumpsuit, denim Dungarees and S/S Jumpsuit for different occasions.

Shirt dresses are also a great option for spring/summer especially in a boyfriend shirt or denim style to go from day to night.

Do you have a formula for 'going out' dressing? And how does it change with the seasons?

My formula for going out dressing is quite simple – a basic like the Frayed Star Jeans or the Raw Edge Mini Skirt, a statement top or accessory like the Piped Printed Cami or Double Star Pendant, and a finisher piece like the Star Leather Jacket or Longline Embroidered Military Jacket.

The perfect formula for any season and not just for evenings!
