How to style jumper dresses for winter

Five ways to wear the cosiest items in your wardrobe

The thing about getting dressed in the cold and dark is that we’re drawn to anything that resembles a blanket. That’s why our favourite outfits right now involve jumper dresses: long, short, chunky or fine-knit… we’re into it. However we’re wearing them, they’re giving us enough cosy comfort to make it that bit easier to get out of bed pre-sunrise. So, to bring you a little outfitting inspo, here are a few of our favourite ways to style jumper dresses in winter – consider them the ultimate throw-on looks.

Roll with it

The kind of jumper dress that needs the least styling up is the trusty rollneck, and this is our no-fuss, not-awake-enough look that’ll have you cocooned up in seconds. We’ve made this one from 100% wool so it’s ridiculously soft and warm (but not sweaty) and its large rollneck is practically a scarf in itself. All it needs are chunky boots like our zip-up Elm boots and some silver-plated earrings to make it look polished and put together.

Pile on the jewels

If you’re worried about a knitted dress lacking shape, a V-neck and open collar are a really flattering choice. Plus, the neckline on our Aster dress is the perfect foundation for some jewellery layering, which makes it instantly feel ready for after-work drinks. We’ve gone for lots of gold-plated chains and slung our Balbina bag over the shoulder to carry everything but the kitchen sink.

Layer with leather

Want to toughen up your jumper dress? Trade a pair of tights for a texture clash with our buttery soft leather leggings. Our Barnes dress works perfectly for being a little shorter, and its alpaca-infused ribbed knit gives us even more reason to love it. We’ve layered a plain white T-shirt underneath for extra warmth, but its adjustable neckline looks just as good without.

Add a shirt

Yes, you can smarten up a jumper dress. How? Just add a shirt and the vibe goes from casual to collegiate. Our Scarlett knitted dress has a slimmer fit (with a flattering leg split to break up the shape), but add a colourful blouse underneath and it instantly feels more office-bound than off-duty. This midi length looks great with ankle-high Chelsea boots.

Glam it up

All the snugness of a jumper dress with the wow-factor of a party piece? We can’t believe it either, but our Flo dress is something special. The cold shoulder and split hem flash a little skin, but rest assured it’s the comfiest party outfit you’ll ever wear. We’ve gone for gold when it comes to the accessories: platform heels (the all-night dancer’s choice) and some statement drop earrings to shimmy around that high neckline.
