MOMENTS IN HUSH
How five women artists found theirs

Every moment in Hush is unique. Each has its own sense of time and place. Its own scent, its own feeling. What it means in your world is up to you. Which is why we’re exploring moments in Hush from different perspectives – inviting five women artists from London and Australia to showcase their interpretation alongside our new collection.

In Surrey, Esther Theaker shares her moment in Hush with model and artist Lily McMenamy. Trailblazing model Tarlisa Gaykamangu directs a series of self-portraits in Sydney. Ellen Virgona documents a moment at Clovelly Beach at the first light of day. Stylist and photographer Cathy Kasterine captures Marsella Rea in London Fields. Meanwhile, at home in Melbourne and along the Murray River, Sarah Pannell chases the summer sun.

Unique perspectives, oceans apart, stitched together make our moment in Hush.

Lily McMenamy by Esther Theaker
at Munstead Wood, Surrey

The way Esther sees and shows women is special. In her photography, she carefully weaves together both the intimate and empowering nature of femininity. We journeyed to Surrey with Esther to shoot model and artist Lily McMenamy at Munstead Wood, the home of horticulturist Gertrude Jekyll. Lily’s charm is absolutely unique and there's no one better to capture it.

Just like our clothes, our surroundings can bring moments of meaning, confidence and ease. There’s a conversation going on – albeit in hushed tones – between people and place. That’s why Australian photojournalist Sarah was just the right person to create a documentary style shoot for us – where our spring collection and the Melbourne backdrop make comfortable on-screen collaborators.

Marsella Rea by Cathy Kasterine
in London Fields, London

A revered stylist and friend of Hush – Cathy is a multitasking maestro. When she started making moves into photography, we wanted our next partnership to give her space to explore this new aspect of her creative expression. She styled and captured our new season denim in London Fields – read more about her moment in Hush here.

Sadie Wyer-Manock by Ellen Virgona
in Clovelly, NSW, on Birrabirragal and Gadigal Country

What we love about Ellen’s work is how she brings us in to witness an intimate moment; making time stand still just for the viewer. As a photographer, her body of work is all about capturing every and any moment. Not just a highlight reel of our happiest times, but the contrasting, tension-filled full spectrum of feelings. We love the honesty of her approach, so we joined her on Sydney’s Clovelly Beach to capture our swimwear in action.

Tarlisa Gaykamangu directs self-portraits
in Wahroonga, NSW, on Dharug Country

It’s early days in Tarlisa’s career, but things are happening. At speed. The First Nations model was the cover story for Australian Vogue’s prized September issue. And made her recent runway debut at Bottega Veneta in Milan. We headed to Sydney for Tarlisa’s spring shoot. Read our interview with her here

Hush was founded by Australian Mandy Watkins in 2003 and continues to be inspired by its Aussie roots. As we photograph our collection in Australia and work with the Australian creative community, we feel it’s important to acknowledge, and show respect for, the Traditional Owners of the land we operate on. Therefore, you might have noticed that the locations of our photoshoots in Australia are identified by two names. One is the English place name; the other recognises the Traditional Owners of that land.
